Foreword
The anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion
was aired on Japanese television for 26 episodes in 1997. The creators
followed it up with two movies that was shown a year later. It is also
broadcasted by ATV in 1998. The series featured a diverse cast of
protagonists as well as weird and interesting antagonists. This blend of
characters gave the series the winning formula.
Story
The story starts in the year 2000. A giant, unidentified object comes
crashing down on Antarctica. It was soon discovered to be a massive
living organism and is called angel. A message from an alien source
came and told the human race that God ordered them to send this object,
which they called an angel. The massive object remained dormant for
quite a while when suddenly, it exploded. The resulting heat wave
melted the whole Antarctica which resulted in massive flooding all over
the world. The angels vowed that they would return after 15 years and
see if the human race had learned its lesson. So in this time span, the
human race prepared and created NERV, an organization with almost
an unlimited amount of funds designated to create ultimate fighting
machine to fend off these angels. They created the Evangelions,
massive machines or robots which were patterned from the first angel
they've captured before all the turmoil (Lilith, the first angel). However,
not just anybody could pilot these machines. Gendo Ikari, the
commander of NERV, created the "Human Aid Program" to find
suitable pilots. Until the year 2015, all that the program could find were
three 14 year old, Rei Ayanami, Shinji Ikari, and Asuka Langley who all
had their own personal problems. And the story goes. The story has a lot
of characters within but it is mainly focussed on the three main
characters. They are called the "children." The first child is Rei
Ayanami, the second child is Sohryu Asuka Langley, and the third child
is Shinji Ikari.
